STV to Lead Upgrade of Effluent Service Water System at Philadelphia’s Southwest Water Pollution Control Plant

PHILADELPHIA, PA — STV today announced it has been selected by the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) to lead a major rehabilitation of the Southwest Water Pollution Control Plant (SW-WPCP), Philadelphia’s second-largest wastewater facility.

STV will provide engineering services for rehabilitation at SW-WPCP, which treats an average of 150 million gallons per day (MGD) and wet weather flow in excess of 500 MGD. The SW-WPCP is one of three Philadelphia Water Department water pollution control plants that serve more than 2 million residents across the city and surrounding communities.

The revitalization project covering the 90-acre campus will fully replace the plant’s decades-old plant effluent service water system to improve operations and provide long-term sustainability. The effluent service water is an essential system for dewatering equipment, process tank cleanings and washdowns, along with other plant operations and maintenance. STV’s scope includes hydraulic analysis, planning and design to lead a complete replacement of underground service water piping, installation of new service water pumps with variable frequency drives to improve energy efficiency, upgraded SCADA controls for operational flexibility and a condition assessment of the facility’s elevated steel storage tank.
