AKT II becomes Tyréns AKT

AKT II has changed its name to Tyréns AKT to reflect its position within the international Tyréns Group.

As the practice celebrates its 30-year anniversary and moves into its new award-winning headquarters at Norton Folgate, London, the transition from AKT II to Tyréns AKT recognises its longstanding relationship and shared ambition with the Group.

Having been part of the Tyréns Group for the past 15 years, strengthening the Tyréns name marks the next chapter in Tyréns AKT’s evolution as part of a broader international network of engineers, designers and specialists.

Tyréns AKT is a leading interdisciplinary and international engineering practice with studios in London, Bristol, Cambridge and Manchester, alongside studios in Copenhagen, Kraków and Toronto. Known for its design-led approach, the practice works at the intersection of engineering, architecture and research to deliver innovative and award-winning projects around the world.

With longstanding academic connections, including a position within Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Tyréns AKT has helped shape discourse around the future of design and engineering internationally. Building on decades of work across North America, the practice expanded its presence in the region through the establishment of its Toronto studio in 2024.

From its Toronto studio, Tyréns AKT is playing an active role in shaping the Greater Toronto Area’s evolving built environment. Across projects for Oxford Properties, Hullmark, Starlight and Toronto Community Housing Corporation, the practice is helping deliver more sustainable, resilient and people-centred places. Tyréns AKT’s commitment to combining engineering excellence with research, design thinking and environmental responsibility is delivering measurable impact while supporting continued growth in the region.

The move also reflects Tyréns Group’s goals for expansion in existing markets and international growth, through closer collaboration across regions and disciplines. Founded in Sweden in 1942, Tyréns is a £250+ million business with 3,000 employees, delivering sustainable and innovative engineering and design services in the built and natural environment. It works across Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Canada, Denmark and the UK, where AKT II has been part of Tyréns since 2011.

In the UK market, Tyréns acquired interdisciplinary consultant, engineer and advisor Hilson Moran in 2017, which has also changed its name to Tyréns Hilson Moran.
