صورة
PROTECTING unique architectural elements, one of London’s Grade II listed buildings has undergone a condition and sustainability survey to preserve its 140-year-old heritage. Situated at the heart of the Knightsbridge conservation area adjacent to the Royal Albert Hall, Queen Alexandra’s House operates as a women-only accommodation for students at the Royal Colleges of Music, Art and Science. Built in 1884, the building required an in-depth assessment to evaluate its current condition and identify opportunities to improve its sustainability. Specialist heritage surveyors at multi-disciplinary consultancy,  Pick Everard , were appointed to deliver a detailed condition report, ongoing maintenance and capital works plan, a costed schedule of works, and proposals for enhancing the property’s environmental sustainability and energy performance.  Matthew Appleton, strategic account director at Pick Everard, said: “From our detailed examination of the building structure, ...

Hundreds of projects to reconnect communities separated by roadways will launch in 2025

By: Mary Scott Nabers The 4.2 million miles of roads and highways in the U.S. are critical components of the country’s economic vitality. The transportation infrastructure allows Americans to commute, connect and transport goods efficiently. Yet, many of the older roadways limit access between communities, negatively impacting citizens and businesses. Congress has appropriated an abundance of funding to remedy these situations by supporting projects that reconnect communities with various types of new access options. The impact has been profound, and many city officials are focused on removing physical and social barriers created by past highway construction. Most projects provide access extensions for pedestrians and cyclists, and often there are project components that include the addition of green spaces, paths and trails that beautify and connect communities. The projects described below seek to align infrastructure investments with a commitment to social equity, environmental j...

Where there’s a will, there’s a way

Ying Liu, LEED AP BD+C From The Zweig Letter How do you ensure your firm has both the will and the way to succeed in this increasingly competitive market? One of my favorite expressions from learning French, “vouloir, c’est pouvoir” (where there’s a will, there’s a way), has been a guiding mantra throughout my entire AEC career over the last 15 years. Originally, I connected with it as a powerful professional motto, but over time, I began to channel its meaning into my broader passion and strengths, driving value creation for AEC firms at Zweig Group through strategic growth planning. This phrase speaks to a timeless truth; however, its full potential is often untapped. The question AEC leaders must ask is: How do you ensure your firm has both the will and the way to succeed in this increasingly competitive and evolving market? In this article, I explore how to bridge the gap between the will and the way through well-crafted, forward-looking growth strategies. By doing so, your fi...

Built by military architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, the Citadelle is perched atop Mount Saint-Étienne and sprawls over four hectares. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has endured wars, sieges, and the ravages of time. Today, it houses four museums, including a zoological park. An innovative technology project, sponsored by the French Government, is underway to bring the historic Citadelle to life while preserving its legacy for future generations. The project uses reality capture technology from Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, to create a comprehensive 3D model of the entire Citadelle. Leading the effort is Hugo Parent, the head of the heritage department...
