Record-Setting Year: Latitude 33 Wins Four Awards from ASCE San Diego

Engineering Firm Recognized for Civil and Military Projects

San Diego, CA – Celebrating a landmark year of industry recognition, Latitude 33 Planning, Engineering & Surveying earned four project awards at this year’s annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Diego Section awards.  This awards program recognizes individual achievements and outstanding civil engineering projects throughout the San Diego region.  At this year’s May 15, 2026 gala, awards were given in 10 individual categories and 18 project categories.  With a company record of four project awards, Latitude 33 received the highest number of project awards of any civil engineering firm at this year’s awards program.  Latitude 33’s award-winning projects included: San Diego International Airport New Terminal 1 (New T1), San Diego County Public Health Lab, Bachman Place Widening, and P951 Special Operations Forces Advanced Training Command Operations Support Facility.

Latitude 33’s 2026 ASCE San Diego Section Award-Winning Projects

  • San Diego International Airport New Terminal 1

Named this year’s Outstanding Airports & Ports Project, the New T1 is a progressive design build effort that will support the increases in passenger travel through 2035 projections. Completed in September 2025, the first phase was a $3+ billion project which encompassed 1.2 million square feet of improvements.  The redevelopment includes 19 new gates, a redesigned on-airport roadway system, a 10-acre parking plaza with more than 5,000 stalls, and a ground transportation plaza.  Inside the terminal are new security checkpoints, restaurants, shops, and seating.  The New T1 also showcases San Diego’s artistic and cultural identity, with five major commissioned public art pieces. 

  • San Diego County Public Health Lab

Earning top honors as the Outstanding Architectural Engineering Project, the County’s new Public Health Lab plays a critical role in protecting the health of all San Diegans by monitoring, detecting and responding to public health concerns.  The $93 million, two-story facility provides 52,000 square feet of space and cutting-edge technology for nearly 90 employees and contractors.  The state-of-the-art building is home to a Biosafety-Level (BSL) 3 Bioterrorism Lab, Tuberculosis (TB) Prep and BSL-3 TB Labs, Genome Sequencing Lab, Training Lab, Rabies Lab, and a Surge Lab to scale up response.

  • Bachman Place Widening

As this year’s Outstanding Roadway and Highway Project, Bachman Place provides a critical connection for San Diego residents between the Uptown community and Mission Valley.  Following a three-year closure, Bachman Place has been re-designed to improve traffic flow, support emergency vehicle access, and support sustainable transportation for the region.  The rebuilt Bachman Place now offers a wider roadway (expanded by 11 feet, to a total width of 43 feet), two southbound lanes and one northbound lane, dedicated bike lanes in both directions, a five-foot raised pedestrian sidewalk, newly installed utility infrastructure to support future development, fresh pavement, improved lighting, new signage and safer lane configurations.

  • P951 Special Operations Forces Advanced Training Command Operations Support Facility

Named this year’s Outstanding Department of Defense Project, this project consists of new facilities totaling 20,000 gross square feet to support the Naval Special Warfare Center Advanced Training Command at the Silver Strand Training Complex – South, part of Naval Base Coronado Coastal Campus in Coronado, CA. The project scope included: design and construction of a new Operations Support Facility, demolition of buildings 95 and 903, renovations to the existing historic building 1, and connection of Sea Float Street which is part of the primary vehicular circulation for the base. This project marks the culmination of a $1+ billion, 10+ year effort to establish a Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado in what was previously outdated and obsolete facilities and systems.
