Former Middle School Reimagined as Multi-Use Community Hub Opens in White Bear Lake

Designed by Wold Architects & Engineers, the adaptive use facility supports learners and residents of all ages

White Bear Lake, Minn. – Wold Architects & Engineers, a national full-service planning, architecture and engineering firm specializing in education design, recently celebrated the completion of a three-phase renovation project that transformed the former Sunrise Park Middle School into a centralized district and community hub serving White Bear Lake Area Schools. Rooted in human-centered design, the renovation consolidates services previously spread across multiple locations while improving connection and accessibility for all ages.

The new center houses the district office, early childhood programming, the Transition Education Center (TEC), a senior center and a gymnastics facility, bringing together programs that serve residents across every stage of life. Sunrise Park’s completion marks another major milestone in the district’s long-range “Building Our Future” facilities plan, developed through a comprehensive community engagement process and made possible through the community’s support of a 2019 bond referendum.

The renovated school building broadens access to early childhood programming and creates dedicated spaces for community services, recreation and the district’s relocated TEC, a key component of the project which supports young adults ages 18-22 preparing for employment, independent living and continued education.
