Wrekin and Geoworks Gain Ground in 2025

CIVIL engineering product manufacturer  Wrekin , alongside its subdivision  Geoworks , has recorded significant growth despite a punishing year for the overall construction market – resulting in more than one million product sales in 2025. As UK housebuilding declined by around 8% against a backdrop of high interest rates and inflation, Wrekin’s turnover grew by 12%. This growth was underlined by a series of major deals with utilities companies, as new and renewed frameworks were secured with BT, Severn Trent Water and Thames Water. The Lichfield-based business’ turnover from its water, telecoms and energy offerings grew markedly. The success of the past 12 months was fuelled by a workforce which expanded in both its size and productivity. Wrekin’s productivity rose by a resounding 25%, as picking output per person per day increased from 19 to 24 tonnes. Meanwhile 13 new staff members were employed across Wrekin and Geoworks, significantly increasing capacity. Simon Turne...

Groundbreakings, Ribbon Cutting Indicate Progress on Eastern Arkansas Groundwater, Flood Protection Initiatives

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Memphis District marked three major infrastructure milestones in eastern Arkansas Mar. 3, 2026.  The events included groundbreaking ceremonies for the Grand Prairie Region Project and the Bayou Meto Basin Project and a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the successful installation of three new gearboxes at Graham Burke Pumping Station.  All three achievements reflect significant advances in safeguarding Arkansas’s water resources and the communities that rely on these critical water supplies. The Grand Prairie and Bayou Meto Basin projects share the common goal of lowering long-term water depletion of the Alluvial and Sparta Aquifers, both being crucial water resources relied upon by farmers, municipalities, and industries in eastern Arkansas.  After decades of concentrated agricultural irrigation, these aquifers have been drained to critically low levels, threatening the region’s economy and long-term water securit...

New DBIA Primer Provides Targeted Guidance for Progressive Design-Build Projects

Free resource responds to rapid growth as PDB now represents one-third of design-build procurements nationwide WASHINGTON —  The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has released its Progressive Design-Build Done Right®: Progressive Design-Build Best Practices primer, providing specific guidance for Owners and practitioners using Progressive Design-Build (PDB). PDB now represents roughly one-third of all design-build procurements, according to FMI’s 2024 Design-Build Utilization Study. As design-build is projected to reach 47% of U.S. construction spending and exceed $1 trillion by 2028, PDB’s share continues to expand on projects facing technical complexity, cost volatility and evolving scope. This new publication builds on DBIA’s Design-Build Done Right® Universal Best Practices and responds directly to PDB’s accelerating adoption. While grounded in the same collaborative principles, PDB introduces distinct procurement, contracting and execution dynamics that require great...
