McCarthy Building Companies Strengthens Regional Safety Leadership, Reinforcing Its Commitment to an Industry-Leading Safety Culture

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — McCarthy Building Companies Inc., one of the nation’s oldest and largest privately held construction firms, recently announced two key safety leadership promotions in its Southern Pacific (SoPac) region—underscoring the company’s long-standing commitment to fostering a safety-first culture across every jobsite and operation.

Jose Bojorquez has been promoted to Senior Regional Safety Director, where he will oversee region-wide safety performance and join McCarthy’s Regional Leadership Team. Grant Hill has been promoted to Regional Safety Director, supporting operations across northern and southern Nevada and San Diego, California. Together, the promotions further strengthen McCarthy’s safety leadership bench at a time of continued growth and increasingly complex work.

“Our teams have seen firsthand how a relentless focus on safety strengthens every project and every relationship we have with our clients and trade partners,” said Bob Betz, Executive Vice President, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. “Jose and Grant bring the kind of field-tested experience and people-first leadership that will help us build on the progress we’ve made and continue raising the bar for safety performance across Southern California. Their work will play a critical role in making sure everyone on our jobsites returns home safe to their families at the end of each day.”

A McCarthy veteran of more than 12 years, Bojorquez has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to safety. In his new role, he will lead the SoPac safety department, guide regional safety strategy, and continue to advance a culture rooted in accountability, proactive planning, and open communication.

“Safety is about people—how we look out for one another and how we plan our work with intention,” Bojorquez said. “As our region grows, this structure allows us to better support our teams and partners while staying ahead of the safety challenges that come with complex projects.”

Hill, who previously led safety efforts in McCarthy’s Southern region, brings six years of experience with the firm and a strong technical foundation in occupational safety and health. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Jacksonville State University and maintains professional safety certifications.

In his new role, Hill will oversee training, communication, case management, and policy enhancements, while driving proactive safety strategies across Nevada and San Diego. His experience spans large-scale healthcare, aviation, higher education, and renewable energy projects, including complex work performed in fully operational environments.

“McCarthy’s approach to safety is comprehensive and people-driven,” Hill said. “I’m excited to support teams in Nevada and San Diego and help strengthen systems that empower everyone on our jobsites to work safely and confidently.”

As McCarthy continues to deliver some of the region’s most complex and high-profile projects, these leadership updates ensure the firm remains proactive in addressing evolving safety needs—reinforcing its belief that a strong safety culture is essential to operational excellence, project success, and long-term partnership.
