LOUIS, MO  – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) has completed the first portion of installation of a new public art exhibit that will eventually link a one-mile stretch of the Brickline Greenway from Harris-Stowe State University to St. Louis CITY SC’s CITYPARK Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The permanent exhibit features art that acknowledges the 1959 displacement of nearly 20,000 Black residents of the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood formerly located at the site. Rhino completes work on major North American rail tunnel project

The UK’s leading manufacturer of high-performance engineered doors has successfully completed an 18-month project to design test and manufacture 19 fire-rated doors for a major North American rail tunnel. The sliding, single-leaf fire-rated doors were designed at Rhino’s production facility in South Wales and built to withstand both positive and negative pressures from passing trains, as well as to combat fatigue from over one million loading cycles per year. Built from carbon steel and protected with high-performance paint, the doors were tested to North American fire-rating standards (NFPA 252), subjected to 1,000-degree temperatures for 90 minutes and followed by shock loading from high-pressure fire-fighting hoses. Following these rigorous physical fire tests, the doors were also assessed to BS 476 Part 22 and granted a 60-minute integrity rating. S&T researchers on cutting edge of 3D concrete printing developments

ROLLA, Mo. – A research team at Missouri University of Science and Technology is currently working to make the 3D printing of concrete faster, stronger and more resilient for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “Through our research, we hope to develop new fiber-reinforced concrete composites that can be 3D printed,” says Dr. Kamal Khayat, S&T’s vice chancellor for research and innovation. “This type of printing can allow for faster construction of protective battlefield structures including temporary bridges, military barracks, guardhouses, bunkers and blast-resistant shields, which can reduce risks to soldiers in volatile areas.” Khayat is also a faculty member for S&T and serves as the Vernon and Maralee Jones Professor of Civil Engineering.
