Tenaris Joins the Steel Manufacturers Association

Washington, D.C.:  The  Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA)  announced today that  Tenaris  and the company’s president over its U.S. operations, Luca Zanotti, have joined the association and its board of directors. Tenaris operates multiple steel pipe facilities in the U.S. as well as an electric arc furnace steel mill in Koppel, Pennsylvania, with 430,000 tons of annual steelmaking capacity. Tenaris also operates the world’s most technologically advanced seamless pipe mill in Bay City, Texas, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons. Luca Zanotti, president of Tenaris in the U.S., said, “We are pleased to partner with the SMA and its member companies. Commercial and Multifamily Starts Post Impressive Gains During First Half 2022

Twelve of the top 20 metro areas posted gains during 2022’s first six months HAMILTON, New Jersey— During the first six months of the year, the value of commercial and multifamily construction starts in the top 20 metropolitan areas of the U.S. increased 24% from 2021, according to Dodge Construction Network . Nationally, commercial and multifamily construction starts increased 18% year-to-date. In the top 10 metro areas, commercial and multifamily starts rose 28% in the first six months of 2022 compared to that of 2021. Three metro areas (Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, and Philadelphia, PA) posted a decline. In metro areas ranked 11 through 20, commercial and multifamily starts rose 16% on year-to-date through six months, although five metro areas (Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Nashville, TN, Minneapolis, MN, and Kansas City, MO) slipped from the first half of 2021. Hawthorne, N.J.:   The winner of the DFI’s 2022 Outstanding Project Award is the Mosul Dam Rehabilitation Project, in Iraq, submitted by Trevi, S.p.A., service foundation division of Trevi Group. The award is being presented at DFI’s 47th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations , October 4-7 in National Harbor, Maryland. The Mosul Dam on the Tigris River dates to the 1980s and is the largest in Iraq at 113 m (371 ft) tall and 3.65 km (2.3 mi) long. Even during the construction phase, engineers were aware of the foundation’s weak rock, and contractors encountered cavities during excavation. Due to political and schedule pressures, the work continued. Despite extensive grouting efforts, water seepages started immediately after commissioning the dam. RED7MARINE AWARDED PILING WORKS FOR PORTLAND PORT’S DEEP-WATER BERTH

The Marine Partner of Choice, Red7Marine, has been awarded the £3.6M piling scope for Portland’s new deep-water berth, which will allow larger ships to dock in the Port. The deep-water berth being constructed will extend up to 250m in length and have a new water depth of 12m CD. The work is being carried out is to replace the existing 1978 island berth which was constructed from a suspended reinforced concrete deck on steel piles. The new facility will welcome larger cruise liners, Panamax bulk carriers and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels. Red7Marine will be carrying out the piling for the project which involves the installation of 136 new steel tubular piles with intermediate sheet piles to create a 400m of new combi-wall structure. Regional consensus on what to study in the federal environmental review process moves the IBR program into the next phase of the process  PORTLAND  – The bi-state  Interstate Bridge Replacement program   announced today, Thursday, July 21, that its Executive Steering Group reached a unanimous recommendation to move the program’s Modified Locally Preferred Alternative into the federal environmental review process for further study – the next step in addressing the Interstate 5 bridge between Washington and Oregon.  Following the steering group’s meeting, the recommendation also was discussed with the members of the Bi-State Legislative Committee for their direction and guidance to the program as work moves into the next phase.   For the past year and a half, Executive Steering Group members have collaborated in an iterative process leading to today’s action, including  endorsement of the Modified LPA by the boards, councils and commissions of each local partner agency in recent weeks.

Total Construction Starts Slide 5% in June

Total construction starts fell 5% in June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $932.3 billion, according to Dodge Construction Network . Nonresidential building starts lost 14% during the month and residential was 6% lower. On the contrary, nonbuilding starts gained 13% in June due to the start of several large solar projects. Year-to-date, total construction was 5% higher in the first six months of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021. Nonresidential building starts rose 13% and residential starts gained 3%, while nonbuilding starts were 2% lower. For the 12 months ending June 2022, total construction starts were 7% above the 12 months ending June 2021. Nonresidential starts were 17% higher, residential starts gained 5% and nonbuilding starts were down 2%. “Construction markets are getting jittery as the odds of recession increase,” said Richard Branch, chief economist for Dodge Construction Network. “While projects are still moving through the planning process, the velocity

Sparrows Group awarded £50 million crane management contract with major UKCS operator

Sparrows Group , the engineering and maintenance specialists for the global energy and industrial sectors, has secured a contract worth approximately £50 million with a major UKCS operator to provide crane management services across its operating assets in the North Sea. The five-year agreement, which also has two, two-year extension options, will see Sparrows deliver crane operations and maintenance services across 10 of the operator’s assets in the region. Sparrows has held the contract since 2018 and will continue with the provision of operation, maintenance, and engineering services to ensure the safety and reliability of 38 cranes. The scope includes development and implementation of planned maintenance routines, as well as undertaking planning and risk assessment for all lifting operations.
